Common Sense: Apparently No Longer Common
I am constantly amazed by the world’s ability to forgo rational thought in favor of ease, political correctness, selfishness, or fear. Despite the fact that the phrase is “common sense” it does not seem that rational thought and obvious conclusions are all that common. I often avoid looking at any sort of news site simply because they stopped being actual news and instead became a showcase of Darwinism failing us.
Take for example the story that in Iowa you can obtain a gun permit if you’re legally blind. “The fact that you can’t drive a car doesn’t mean you can’t go to a shooting range and see a target.” So, apparently if you’re too blind to operate a piece of machinery that is dangerous if used incorrectly, you’re not too blind to use a smaller piece of equipment that is dangerous if used incorrectly.
Or this guy who was surprised about the negative reaction to the decal on the tailgate of his truck that made it look like there was a woman tied up in the back of his truck. Because tying women up in vehicles is obviously a gray area.
And how about the group of eighth graders who were arrested for starting a food fight in the cafeteria. That’s right, a food fight landed a bunch of 12 year-olds a mug shot and a court date all thanks to an overzealous “zero tolerance” policy.
How did we reach a point where our heads were so far up our rears, where we were so concerned with not rocking the boat and calling attention to something that is so ridiculous it shouldn’t need to be pointed out that this kind of stuff happens?
The world is a sad place my friends.
